Although the shinobi has a short appearance, his role is crutal to the storyline, therefore I wanted his garments to look good and authentic.
After rigorous research, I discovered all the required garments shinobi wore and what colours these garmnets were often dyed. To my surprise, I discovered that the shinobi incorporated little touches of colour here and there to their garments, the most popular being red, purple and blue.
I was always under the impression that shinobi just wore black garments, so it was nice to experiment with the black and other colour combinations.
The shinobi in this story is on the opposing side to the samurai, knowing this, I decided to choose the red and black garnments to take forward to the character design stage.
the colour red can symbolise evil and bad things, this was my reasoning for going with this colour.
