Servant character design & development

Servant hairstyles

All female servants will fashion a traditional japanese hairstyle, this hairstyle will be secured by kanzashi, in the form of hairpins and combs. These accessories will be plain in colour and design to show their stature.

When the weather is hot they can wear a head scarf called a tenugui, this garment acts as a barrier from the sun and collects sweat. The men can wear this garment too, either in the same style, but preferably wrapped around the head in a ribbon like fashion.

The men can have either long, short or no hair. But if they do have long hair, they have to wear it in a chonmange.

Servant final garment, hair and headwear designs

All female servants will wear a kimono, where as the males will wear a haori, both garments are secured using an obi tied around the waist.

Both garments will have the Adachi family pattern printed onto it and will come in three different colours. Each colour symbolises which jobs they will have to carry out within the household. Both garments will be worn with a pair of geta on the feet.

The kimonos will be ankle length, whereas the haori will finish just above the knee. Both these style of garments were worn by labourers and servants durng the edo period in Japan, so styling my designs of this helped to make my designs accurate.
