In this story, Sakura will be seen in 3 different kimonos, this being because there are certain occasions in the story that require her clothing to change. This is due to an environmental or a situation change.
These 3 kimono are; the kimono she wears when she first transforms into a human, the Adachi residence kimono and her occasional/festival kimono.
Sakura, in this story, was originally a sakura tree but was unable to bloom.
A popular kimono pattern are flowers and in partiuclar sakura. To reflect her true nature I wanted to incorporate sakura into her kimono as well as her accessories.
Sakura primarily comes in the colour pink, therefore, I decided to incorporate this colour into all of her garments. I experimented with a variety of different shades of pink and I felt the pastel pinks were to wishy washy. They would clash with her light pink hair, so, I decided that the richer and darker coloued pinks worked best.
I also tried a variety of different sakura pattern layouts, and I felt that for these two garments that the simpler patterns worked best. They came across softer than the patterns with lots going on, which reflects sakura's shy personality.
Towards the middle of the story is where Sakura will be wearing a bolder style garment. This is the point in the story where she is a lot more confident as a person. This being because she has Yohiro by her side and is happy for the first time in her life. Therefore, I wanted the garment to reflect this by being bolder in pattern and colour choice. I believe that this will demonstrate the characters growth and development.
