Kikai is a magical, eternal, wise, mysterious, beautiful and reclusive being. She is fashioned off of japanese yosei, therefore Kikai is required to have long flowing hair, to which I incorporated into all of my designs.
Although Kikai is eternal, I do not want her to look old. I struggled with this aspect of the hair design, as I felt a lot of my designs made her look young and girly. I wanted Kikai to look mature and wise, so I had to come away from the double bun on either side of her head. The one bun on top of the head, however, gave off a more mature and classy look. Combining this with curtain bangs, to hide her identity, achieved a mysterious yet wise appearance as seen in design 4 on slide 2.
Like Sakura's kimono, Kikai's kimono will be in the furisode style. The reason for making Kikai's kimono this style is because I wanted extremely long sleeves that represent wings. This would reflect this characters true form, being a red crowned crane, through her clothing.
All other reasoning for styling her kimono the way I have can be found in the garment pattern design section.
